SPC Weekly Report (June 18 to 24, 2018)
Here’s the latest updates about our technological progress, partnerships and community activities.
TECHNOLOGY PROGRESS:
Blockchain node in space
- Test board repair completed
This week, we have repaired the Node test boards and commenced the testing phase. The hardware team has tested and confirmed that the eMMC interface IP core in the PL section of the test board has an abnormal read/write problem. In order not to affect the progress of software development, the team decided to use a backup solution for the test board: Connect NandFlash directly to the motherboard through the SDIO interface of the ZYNQ7030. At the same time, the Gigabit Ethernet adapter board with soldering problems will also be repaired this week.
- Node is basically determined by the hardware solution
Based on the results of the basic electrical and software tests, the team has determined the hardware design of the node. The sample design is currently smaller than the original sample. After the test and evaluation, the team will finalize the design plan, and the node hardware will also enter the sample production stage.

OS development work:
- Ethereum Light Node Migration Plan Adjustment
Ethereum homestead deployment nodes in the future are mostly space nodes and embedded device nodes. Taking into account the node’s computing power, power consumption and other characteristics, the team plans to develop lightweight Ethereum node software after the completion of Ethereum full node SpaceChain OS system migration. On one hand, it reduces the node’s demand for the node’s hardware computing capabilities, enabling it to run on more low-power devices. On the other hand, for space-based orbiting nodes such as satellites, the dependence of software on low latency is reduced, allowing it to operate better on node platforms with short transit times and low communication bandwidth.

Motherboard migration:
This week, the team has begun the migration of QTUM to the previously selected H3 test board. At present, it has been verified that QTUM is compiled and runs normally on a computer Linux virtual machine. But in the existing Linux test on the H3 mainboard, self-compilation has encountered some problem, considering the relatively high compilation performance requirements, and is currently proceeding with cross-compilation.
- Peripheral system development
This week, the team completed the arrival and testing of the two-dimensional code identification module. The power-on test started normally. After testing, it is found that this module has relatively strong decoding performance. It can also accurately identify the two-dimensional codes of public transportation systems with large amounts of information. It is very fast for the QTUM collection address QR code to read and respond to design requirements. The next step is to make an adapter PCB for adapting this identification module to the H3 motherboard.
- Other jobs
When porting QTUM, preliminary testing of the running power of H3 is performed. The 4800mAh mobile power device can be used to support the eight-hour compiling process of the H3 mainboard. This test provides a reference for future mobile device portability.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT:
SpaceChain has announced a partnership with the Global Startup Ecosystem (GSE) to accelerate the Haitian Space Agency (HSA) in the development of Haiti’s first ever satellite. It is set to be a historic moment for the entire Caribbean region and the world at large. In short, the HSA is an independent agency of Haiti responsible for the civilian space programs, aeronautics and aerospace research as well as the commercialized use of space technologies to accelerate industry development.
The announcement was made June 23 by SpaceChain CEO, Zheng Zuo, along with Einstein Ntim, founding partner of GSE, on stage at the Haiti Tech Summit. More details will be announced shortly including additional government and private sector partners.
