SPC Weekly Report (April 9 to 15, 2018)
This week sees greater technology development. We are also spreading more news and updates about the SpaceChain project to the world!
TECHNOLOGY PROGRESS:
To increase the number of space blockchain nodes and conduct application testing, we will need to make extensive use of a spacecraft.
We have designed a space blockchain payload for a space blockchain application so as to achieve the application in space. The hardware of the payload is an embedded hardware system, and the software is the embedded SpaceChain operating system (https://github.com/spacechain/SpaceChainOS) that supports blockchain functions.
Last week, we completed a detailed hardware review of the satellite blockchain nodes. This week, we completed the design of schematics and PCBs, and started production. At present, we have completed procurement of all components. We will perform PCB testing and patch production after the PCB is completed next week.
After the delivery of the prototype is completed, the hardware system and the software system will then be adopted, and the functional testing and application development will be complete. Additionally, once the commissioning of the prototype is completed, it will be delivered to the carrier and the deployment platform will be jointly adjusted. We will continue to update the community about our technical progress.
“Open Source Software System SpaceChain OS”
1. System development work:
Last week, the OS R&D team began the research and development of virtual machines. The virtual machine, which is used to solve the lack of embedded hardware devices, is a development and debugging platform for software systems. The virtual machine can run the embedded operating system SpaceChain OS on a non-embedded device that runs on another operating system. For example, we can run SpaceChain OS on windows instead of a development board.
This week, the R&D team continued to solve the virtual machines’ various problems. Thanks to the fact that the blockchain does not have the characteristics of a central node, through clever design, we have now done a complete functional operation.
Use as follows:
First, start the QTUM software on your PC
Load SpaceChain VM
Select the zynq VM file. After loading, start the SpaceChain VM.
Then, users need to set the current time after starting
Start the blockchain program
The system automatically syncs blocks
After the synchronization is completed, blockchain related operations can be performed.
We will continue development and testing. Follow-up results will gradually be released to the community.
2. Open-source document finishing work:
SpaceChain OS has completed the open-source code which is placed with the GitHub platform for developers (https://github.com/spacechain/SpaceChainOS). However, the technical documents are not fully completed.
Currently, the completed documents are:
- SPC002001 SpaceChain OS Quick Start V1.0 EN.pdf English
- SPC002001 Blockchain Quick Start Based on SpaceChainOS V1.0.pdf English
- SPC002002Qtum test using method V1.0.pdf Chinese
- SPC002003 open source online instructions V1.0.pdf Chinese
The existing document system is still not perfect. It is necessary to supplement the document system and provide the community with better open-source software technical support.
This week, the team completed the construction and content grooming of the open-source software document structure. The planned open document system is as follows:
We are working on collating Chinese documents and translating them into English, and we will gradually release those documents on GitHub to the community.
